Journal Project

Dear friend, loved one, pet and/or acquaintance,

Yesterday I was lucky enough to watch a documentary on ABC about the 1000 Journal Project. You may or may not have heard about it but it was started in the US in 2000 and grew from there. Check out the site to learn more.

Anyway, it got me thinking how I’d love to start something like this, and was wondering if you would like to participate?

The way it would work would be that i’ll ask people if their interested (like through this email for instance!), then i’d start a journal. After making my mark in it, i’d hand it to the first name on the list, and they will have it for 2 weeks to contribute something to it. Then they will hand it to the next person on the list etc. Eventually it will (hopefully) make it home to me. What makes it so much fun is that you will see what others have contributed, from wherever they are in the world. Also you will be able to let your creative spirit go wild with what you contribute.

What’s next?

I will compile a list of participants in the next week or so. Names will be drawn out of a hat to determine the order it will go. And I’ll keep you posted!

1001 Journals

Hey there,

i saw the doco for 1000 journals yesterday.

and then found out that 1001 journals exists and i can be a part of it!

so i signed up to a few, and will wait and see if i get a journal to contribute to!

Something productive to come out of a work meeting :)

Getting the dream job

without sounding sold out at all, i really want to get this job at Rip Curl!!!

I only found it a week ago and just knew that would be a dream come true! the first job i have ever thought about having and being massively stoked to get up and go to work every day!!

I sent through my draft to my HR pro sister Elle to check out. I didn't realise but that first draft that was mostly written late Friday night (direct form the heart) actually sounds really good!

So now after i sent it to Elle i'm thinking of additional things that i could have mentioned, like:

• how i love being spontaneous and young at heart,
• how i love the fun and silly things in life,
• I surf. despite not surfing heaps since being in WA, i surfed this week and last, and my hand is almost completely healed from cutting it at Cott last week! Also saw dolphins both times!!
• how i am on a search, a journey of my own, and this job is the ultimate next chapter,
• how i have only worn rip curl wet suites booties and hoodies when surfing (as its the only brand that fits me so damn well),
• how i have been around the torquay area since holiday-ing as a kid,
• and moved from North Vic 4 odd years ago,
• How i've met Bethany Hamilton in Phillip Island when she competing in the WQS and was showing her film,
• how my yoga nidra relaxation happy place is riding long cruisey waves in a bikini (every time),
• how there's no where in the world as soul calming as being by the coast for me,
• that my favorite quote is "The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea." (Isak Dinesen).
• how steph gilmore is a massive inspiration to me and to all female surfers,
• how i have never known any company with values and philosophies so similar to that of my own,
• i believe in helping the fellow man
• That i'd be the best hardest working person for the job while being massively fulfilled and getting great job satisfaction!
• How i'd go to work with a goofy smile on my face every day
• How i'd be such a great new diverse member of their team!
• How i'm a bloody awesome worker, and everywhere i have worked loved me and was sad to see me leave, damn it, i have great referees!!!!

I'd also love to let them know about what my dreams are at this point in time, considering i decided to move back home with no plan:

Kate's Dreams June 2010 (in not particular order)

• have fun
• Go back to surfcoast with Percy cat and settle into a place to live and a great new job
• get back into some italian tuition and spend more time with nonna, then get into learning some french
• next june/july, go to UK, France for a holiday
• re-establish my surfing at my point
• become a yoga instructor with samata yoga
• catch up with my family as much as i can
• continue to try new and fun things and branch out into new friendships while nurturing old ones
• travel more
• surf more
• yoga more
• chant more
• dancing more
• draw paint make more
• smile laugh have fun more
• go to indo with christian
• christian gets a cool job based in Vic and him percy and i live by the sea!!!

I think that does it for now, but yeah, have to say, life is feeling so good right now, and even if this job doesn't work out, i know there is going to be something damn good waiting for me not too far around the corner!!

Why Spelling Is Important

A friend sent me this today. I have to say, i did get a laugh out of reading this after my last day of literacy tutor training!

Can't wait to do some correcting this week! Hopefully i find some gems like this one!

It's Swap time and i have sent my pic to all my partners.

It's a little wonkey on the border side of things but other than that, i don't mind it. It was actually a little bit too easy to whip up on a Sunday arvo.

I don't have insomnia, but i'm starting to think it could be possible if i don't start getting into a better sleeping routine. I do however like the over dramatised title.

This weekend i rediscovered my love for photography. You see, i came across an exhibition in the freo markets, it was in aid of the foto freo fringe fest. A young photographer by the name of Timothy Lock was showing photos as part of his "My Space" collection. His work was made up of big black a white photos of people that he met while standing back and taking it all in on some of Melbourne's busy city streets.

After a brief chat i realised this guy's passion for photography and how human and real he was... not saying photographers usually are not, but i suppose, how i could relate to parts of his story.

Tonight, while doing some last things online before having another go at sleep, i found his info on a card and the name Ansel Adame written on the back. So i looked this guy up and was blown away at his work and what he did for photography.

What i realised after all of this.. (while i sit here half awake and half sleep typing) is that i always loved taking photos and was quite good at it from a young age. I wonder now what happened to a lot of those prints, knowing well that most of my life was thrown out between 2002 - 2006 (because...well, u remember why)...but all the ones from my childhood that i took, the snaps from school... i have no clue where they went..but hopefully those old fashioned and now personally valuable prints will be somewhere safe, just waiting for the day they become rediscovered and cherished once again.

In light of recent colouring ins that i have been doing, i thought i'd make a spare of the moment swap on SWAP BOT!

I don't know if it's something people will go for on this network, but i thought in a way it would be a good experiment to see if people have a crack at it, and what people come up with (while secretly helping me practice my colouring in skills)!

It's really hot here in Perth at the moment. I mean really hot...and humid.

With nowhere to escape the heat (minus work, by boyfriend's car and the odd department store), it's pushed me close to breaking point.

After bouts of crashing from exhaustion and frustration about life stuff, I think i'm getting clearer about want i want... but as usual, it's very much 3 steps forward, 2 back....

The need to travel is starting to come up weekly... much more... maybe it's want i really need to do soon.....

Thank golly for having a wonderful love in my life. Their support has made such a difference.

Do you ever have those moments when you've just had enough and just want to have a micro tantrum just so you can be like a little kid and looked after by someone more mature?

I never do. Well i did, just before.

It was all in the name of love. that's what i tell myself.

After i stormed off... i got some dinner delivered to me.

So tomorrow is my first day volunteering as a teachers aid at a local primary school.

I'm surprisingly chilled. Organsing it has happened all so quickly... i guess i'm still pinching myself!

hmm... i still don't know what to wear...

I can't wait to know what it was like!!!!
